Northern Circuit Route Itinerary (9 Days)
Day 1 – Lemosho Gate to Mti Mkubwa Camp
Elevation: 2,100m to 2,900m | Hiking time: 3–4 hours
Start at Lemosho Gate, trekking through lush rainforest to reach Mti Mkubwa Camp, your first overnight stop.
Overnight: Mti Mkubwa Camp
Day 2 – Mti Mkubwa Camp to Shira 1 Camp
Elevation: 2,900m to 3,500m | Hiking time: 4–5 hours
Climb through the forest and open moorland to reach Shira 1 Camp, situated on the scenic Shira Plateau.
Overnight: Shira 1 Camp
Day 3 – Shira 1 Camp to Shira 2 Camp
Elevation: 3,500m to 3,850m | Hiking time: 4–5 hours
Cross the plateau and hike to Shira 2 Camp, surrounded by alpine desert and breathtaking highland scenery.
Overnight: Shira 2 Camp
Day 4 – Shira 2 Camp to Lava Tower, then back to Moir Camp
Elevation: 3,850m to 4,600m to 3,900m | Hiking time: 6–7 hours
Ascend to Lava Tower (4,600m) for acclimatization, then descend to Moir Camp for rest.
Overnight: Moir Camp
Day 5 – Moir Camp to Buffalo/Pofu Camp

Continue along the northern ridge to Buffalo (Pofu) Camp, enjoying the panoramic views and solitude.

Day 6 – Buffalo/Pofu Camp to Third Caves Camp

Climbers continue through rugged alpine terrain toward Third Caves Camp, preparing for the ascent to School Hut.

Day 7 – Third Caves Camp to School Hut

Ascend to School Hut, the final camp before the summit push. Rest and prepare for the early night departure.

Day 8 – Summit Day: School Hut to Uhuru Peak, then descend to Horombo Hut
Elevation: 4,800m to 5,895m to 3,720m | Hiking time: 10–14 hours
Begin the summit push around midnight to reach Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. After celebrating the summit, descend to Horombo Hut for overnight rest.

Day 9 – Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate
Elevation: 3,720m to 1,860m | Hiking time: 4–5 hours
Final descent through moorland and rainforest to Marangu Gate, where climbers receive summit certificates and transfer to the hotel or airport.
