Detailed Itinerary
Drive from Arusha to Momella Gate (1.5 hours). Registration and meet your armed ranger. Begin trek through montane forest rich with wildlifeโwatch for giraffes, buffalos, warthogs, and colobus monkeys! Gradual ascent to Miriakamba Hut.

Highlights: Wildlife encounters, beautiful forest, first views of the crater.
Steep ascent out of the forest into moorland. As you climb, the vegetation changes to giant heather and stunning open landscapes. Spectacular views of the Meru crater and the massive cliff face you'll climb tomorrow. Arrive at Saddle Hut in the afternoon.

- Distance: 8 km
- Elevation Gain: +1,056m
- Habitat: Moorland, heather zone
Optional Afternoon Hike: Climb Little Meru (3,820m) for additional acclimatization and incredible views. Highly recommended!
Highlights: Dramatic crater views, potential to see klipspringers (small mountain antelopes).
Midnight start! Begin the challenging ascent to Socialist Peak in the darkness. The path climbs steeply along a spectacular rocky ridge with sheer drop-offs on one side. Scrambling required in sections (not technical, but exposed). Reach Rhino Point (3,850m), then continue to Socialist Peak, the summit!
Summit Views: If weather permits, watch the sunrise illuminate Mount Kilimanjaro across the plainsโan unforgettable sight. Below you, the sheer crater cliffs drop away dramatically.
Descent: After summit photos and celebration, descend back to Saddle Hut for breakfast and rest. Then continue all the way down to Miriakamba Hut for overnight.

Final descent through the forest. A gentle walk back to Momella Gate where you'll receive your summit certificate. More wildlife viewing opportunities along the way. Transfer back to Arusha.
