Detailed Itinerary
Early morning drive to Lake Natron (6-7 hours) through stunning Rift Valley scenery. Arrive at base camp near Ol Doinyo Lengai. Lunch and rest (very hot). Late afternoon visit to Lake Natron to see flamingos and beautiful soda formations. Early dinner. Sleep for few hours before midnight start. Camp at base.
MIDNIGHT START for summit climb (avoiding extreme daytime heat). Very steep ascent on loose volcanic ash - challenging! Reach active crater at sunrise with incredible views of Lake Natron, Rift Valley, and even Kilimanjaro on clear days. Explore steaming vents and lava formations (safety permitting). Descend in morning. Return to base for breakfast. Drive back to Arusha, arriving evening. (6-8 hours climb, 3-4 hours descent)
